Location: Roscommon County
Project Status: Completed in 2014
In 2012, the MRWA partnered with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) in initiating an education program targeting aquatic invasive species in Roscommon County. The MRWA was able to purchase a power boat washer and hire coordinators to conduct the program.
**2013 Activities**
The power boat washer was purchased and received in March 2013. Shelby Eagan was hired as the coordinator in April. Problems with the boat washer and permits delayed the beginning of the project until the first part of July. Doug Pavlovich was hired to replace Shelby in August.
In 2013, the coordinators and volunteers washed 92 boats and conducted 137 interviews. The coordinators spoke to 396 additional people at local events and meetings to provide AIS education.
**2014 Activities**
The Robert R. Thalner Endowment Fund of the Roscommon County Community Foundation awarded $2,150 toward the continuance of this program. The USFS also provided additional funding to keep this program active plus provided initial funding for education activities in the lower watershed.
