Location: Mecosta County
Project Status: Completed in 2012
In 2011, the MRWA was awarded a grant through the Mecosta County Community Foundation (MCCF) with matching funds from the Wege Foundation and discretionary funds from the MCCF Match Day to complete two rain gardens at the Mecosta Osceola Career Center (MOCC) in Big Rapids (Mecosta Co.). MOCC principal Steve Locke and MRWA Program Coordinator Terry Stilson coordinated the project.
On June 5, 2012, the first of the two rain gardens was planted by MRWA staff, and Career Center, Math/Science Center and Ferris State University students. Thanks to Laura Forbes (Math/Science Center) and Professor Cynthia Fitzwilliams-Heck (Ferris) for incorporating the rain garden planting into their classroom curriculum.
A sign will also be made by Career Center students to display in the garden.
