Cindy Fitzwilliams-Heck

Cindy Fitzwilliams-Heck, MRWA Board Member & Ferris State University Biology Faculty

Cindy has helped spearhead and implement numerous MRWA education and outreach initiatives throughout the watershed. She has a strong understanding for watershed ecology and has unique teaching skills to reach a broad audience. Cindy has led MRWA’s work in water quality trainings, water fairs, school rain garden projects, rain barrel campaigns, a school mentorship program, and the Aquatic Academy for Educators.

She has been a dedicated member of the MRWA since 2002. Cindy has served as Vice Chair, works on many committees, and is currently on the Board of Directors. She does what she can to help move MRWA’s mission forward.

Professionally, Cindy has taught biology courses at Ferris State University since 2001 with a focus on nature study and environmental stewardship. She has worked tirelessly in the college classroom and her volunteer services in efforts to help people learn about their environment. This also includes writing a textbook, A Practical Guide to Nature Study (3rd ed)She also strives to bridge networks and foster relationships in the field of environmental education.

In her spare time, Cindy loves to explore the Muskegon River Watershed with her family.
